Parking fees have caused controversy in Tanzania in the past few days, particularly in Dar es Salaam after car owners reported unfair parking charges from Tanzania Rural and Urban Roads Agency.
On April 7, 2022, TARURA announced penalizing those who exceeded the grace period of 14 days without paying their parking fees. TARURA stated that charges would begin with those with debts from March 1, 2022.
The statement released by TARURA has suspended all penalties on those who exceeded the grace period of 14 days from March 1, 2022, from today, March 8, 2022, until further notice. The suspension goes along with allocating time to provide education to car owners, particularly on their system operational (TerMIS) function.
In the meantime, TARURA urges car owners to pay their parking fees before 14 years as advert number 799 of December 3, 2021.
