One of the most pressing problems lingering the Dar es Salaam is the delay in clearing consignments. The underlying factor to taking a long time to clear cargo at Tanzania’s largest port is red-tapism.

Philanthropists dispatching donations to Tanzania have decried the long time their containers have taken at the Dar port due to lengthy and dull procedures that reach up to four months to clear a container.

Mr Steven Ndosi, the Director of Naurey Golden Soils School in Arusha, expressed his discomfort about the Dar port last week when receiving a donation of dest and chairs for three government schools Denmark organisation called TES schools in Africa.

“We urge the government to deal with red-tapism at the Dar es Salaam port. It was tough for us to import the container which had these donations. You can imagine how hard it was if it arrived in February.”

Mr Ndosi said the red tape is chasing away donors as they feel their purpose of giving is being discouraged by the system in place. Mr Ndosi added that desks and chairs worth TZS 10 million will be donated to primary schools of Ambureni, Moivaro and poli secondary, addressing the schools’ long-time problems in Arumeru.
