The government has collected TZS 192.78 billion from online business activities, including gambling, between July 2024 and March 2025, from 1,820 officially registered companies.
This information was presented today in Parliament in Dodoma by the Deputy Minister for Industry and Trade, Exaud Kigahe, while responding to a question from Special Seats MP (CCM), Dr. Ritta Kabati, who sought to know the government’s efforts in regulating and controlling online businesses.
Kigahe stated that due to the rapid growth of online business, the government is in the final stages of implementing the National Electronic Commerce Strategy. This strategy aims to ensure a robust regulatory framework that aligns with technological advancements and boosts national revenue.
He further explained that the strategy will involve improvements in various areas, including ICT infrastructure, policies, laws, communication services, transportation, online transactions, and public education on safe use of e-commerce platforms.
