President Samia urges new police officers to tackle road accidents, corruption
President Samia Suluhu Hassan has called on newly trained police officers and assistant inspectors to prioritize road safety and develop effective strategies to curb the rising number of traffic accidents in Tanzania.

Speaking at their graduation ceremony in Dar es Salaam, she voiced concern over the increase in road fatalities, with 1,322 accidents and 1,275 deaths reported in just four months—up 9% from last year.

“If the issue is roads, fix them. If it’s driver negligence, train them,” she urged.

The President also emphasized the need to prevent unrest before it begins and issued a firm warning against corruption within the police force, especially among traffic officers.

“Be part of the fight against bribery and corruption,” she said.
