The People’s Liberation Party (CHAUMMA) has officially begun its nomination process for parliamentary and councilor positions ahead of Tanzania’s upcoming General Election, while the presidential race remains pending.
Speaking in Dar es Salaam on July 1, 2025, Secretary General Salum Mwalimu announced that all eligible members—and interested citizens—can now apply to contest under the party’s banner. Aspirants from both mainland Tanzania and Zanzibar must first declare their intended constituencies or wards before receiving official nomination forms.
“This is the right time for our members—and even those who are not yet members but intend to run through CHAUMMA—to begin the process,” said Mwalimu.
He emphasized the need for transparency, calm, and full compliance with party procedures. The presidential nomination process will be announced later, following the completion of initial applications.
CHAUMMA’s move comes shortly after the ruling party, CCM, launched its own nomination schedule, running from June 28 to July 2.
