Tanzania has called on the African Union (AU) to fully utilize South Africa’s upcoming G20 Summit hosting in 2025 to push Africa’s key interests globally.
Speaking at the 47th AU Executive Council session in Equatorial Guinea, Foreign Affairs Minister Ambassador Mahmoud Thabit Kombo urged the AU to focus on issues like fair access to development financing, debt relief, climate action, and economic diversification.
He also emphasized finalizing the AU Commission’s Five-Year Strategic Plan to align with Agenda 2063 goals and supported the 2026 AU budget proposals.
On the sidelines, Ambassador Kombo held talks with Ethiopia’s Minister of State for Foreign Affairs, Mr. Hadera Admassu. They pledged to strengthen ties in trade, infrastructure, air transport, and conflict resolution, and agreed to collaborate on climate initiatives like tree planting.
AU Commission Chairperson Mahmoud Ali Youssouf also addressed the need for stronger financial commitments from member states to overcome development challenges.
