Water Minister Jumaa Aweso has directed authorities in Mbeya to fast-track the Rujewa water project and complete it by September 2025. During an inspection visit, he instructed that construction work continue around the clock to meet the deadline.
The project, currently 35% complete, aims to boost water supply in Mbarali District from just two days a week to 95% daily coverage.
Minister Aweso expressed concern over the slow progress and called for increased manpower. He urged the Mbarali District Commissioner to oversee the project closely and prioritize hiring local youth.

He also reaffirmed President Samia Suluhu Hassan’s directive for timely delivery, confirming that all necessary funds are already in place.
Permanent Secretary Engineer Mwajuma Waziri, who joined the visit, warned the contractor to meet obligations or face legal consequences.
