President Samia Suluhu Hassan has promised a 1 billion shillings reward to Taifa Stars if they win the 2024 African Nations Championship (CHAN), set to run from August 2 to 28 in Tanzania, Kenya, and Uganda.
Announced by Sports Minister Prof. Palamagamba Kabudi on July 24, the incentive aims to motivate players to perform at their best. Bonuses also include 500m/- for reaching the final, 200m/- for the semi-finals, 20m/- for each semi-final goal (“Goli la Mama”), and 10m/- per group-stage goal.
The opening match between Tanzania and Burkina Faso will take place at Benjamin Mkapa Stadium, with Prime Minister Kassim Majaliwa as chief guest.
Prof. Kabudi confirmed that stadiums and facilities are ready, thanks to major government investment. A CHAN Singeli Festival and affordable ticket prices (2,000/- to 10,000/-) are part of efforts to boost public support and turnout.
The public is urged to rally behind the team and take advantage of economic opportunities the tournament brings.
