While the New Constitution debate dominated the debates and speeches of various leaders in the CHADEMA General Assembly, a Ugandan opposition politician who was an official guest at the council said the new constitution alone could not solve the problem.
Robert Kyagulanyi, popularly known as Bobi Wine, the National Unity Platform party leader, has said it is a good idea to have a new constitution. Still, it should not be considered the one that will end all problems in the country.
“In Uganda, we have a perfect constitution, and I can say one of the best in the world even though General [President Yoweri] Museveni has changed the constitution so many times. Our constitution is not respected; the law is just as good as it is in the paper,” he said.
Giving an alternative to that, he said that it is necessary to build the capacity of the people to manage the constitution that they intend to have.
He called on CHADEMA to persuade more young people to participate in political activities as Africa is a young continent. So the future of Africa is in their hands for them to know where they intend to go.
