CAF provides Yanga with three-day window to appeal $35,000 fine for misconduct

Yanga football club has been fined a total of USD 35,000 (over TZS 82 million) by CAF for various infractions during their quarterfinal match against Rivers United from Nigeria.

The match took place on April 30, 2023, at the Mkapa Stadium in Dar es Salaam, and Rivers United complained one day before the match after completing their training at the venue.

Rivers United claimed that their vehicle’s windows were broken, and USD 5,000 was stolen, and also alleged that they were sprayed with a chemical substance. The CAF Ethics Committee, which met on May 4, 2023, imposed a fine of USD 10,000 on Yanga for allegedly lighting flares and throwing fireworks during the match.

Another fine of USD 25,000 was imposed on Yanga for allegedly spraying the substance on Rivers United’s team bus during their training. CAF directed Yanga to pay the fines within 60 days of the punishment being issued.

CAF has also allowed Yanga to appeal the decision within three days of the punishment being issued. If you don’t appeal within the specified time frame, you will need Yanga to pay the fine as directed.
