Tanzania’s ruling party, Chama Cha Mapinduzi (CCM), has pledged to revive and complete the process of drafting a new constitution as part of its 2025 election manifesto, positioning it as a key agenda in strengthening democracy and good governance.
In a section titled “Promoting Democracy and Good Governance”, the manifesto states that CCM will direct the government to ensure an enabling environment for citizens to participate in political, social, and economic activities, guided by national values and the rule of law.
The manifesto also reaffirms the party’s commitment to advancing human rights, the rule of law, and maintaining national stability—elements it describes as critical pillars for the country’s sustainable development.
CCM’s renewed commitment to the constitutional process could reignite national debate on the need for a new constitution that reflects the current aspirations of Tanzanians, after years of stalled progress.
