Government to provide 10,000 graduates with internship opportunities annually

The Government has announced that it has developed the National Graduate Internship Programme (2026/27–2030/31), which aims to provide 10,000 graduates with work experience opportunities every year.

Responding to a question in Parliament, Deputy Minister in the Prime Minister’s Office (Labour, Employment and Industrial Relations), Dr. Evaline Munisi, said the programme seeks to bridge the gap between skills acquired through education and training institutions and the demands of the domestic and international labour markets.

She also said the Government has developed the 2017 National Guidelines for Graduate Practical Training, which are being implemented in both the public and private sectors.

“Since the programme began in the 2017/18 financial year up to September 2026, the Government, in collaboration with various stakeholders, has enabled 34,549 graduates to gain work experience,” she said.

She added that of the graduates who completed the programme, 11,263 secured employment, while 5,116 started their own businesses.
