Kigoma connected to national grid electricity after 60 decades since Independence

The government has connected Kibondo and Kasulu districts in Kigoma Region to the national power grid, saving 22. 4bn/- annually used to purchase fuel and maintain generators.

He said the saved amount does not include funds spent on power generators in Kigoma – Urban district.

Apart from Kigo0ma areas, parts of Nyakanazi, Biharamulo and Ngara in the Kagera region will also be connected to the utility’s national grid in a statement. TANESCO has also completed the construction of a kV 220 power transmission line from Geita to Nyakanazi, along with 33kV and kv400 power transmission lines from Geita to Kigoma.

Similarly, a 33kV from Nyakanazi to Kakonko has been built to connect Kakonko, Kibondo and Kasulu districts to the national grid.

Rukwa, Katavi and Kigoma region residents will be fully connected to the national grid in the next two years once the 400kV booster station in Mbeya Region is completed.
