Kishapu Solar Power Project reaches 63% Completion
A solar power project under construction in Kishapu District, Shinyanga Region, has reached 63% completion and is expected to be finished by the end of October this year.

The update was shared by TANESCO Director, Lazaro Twange, during an inspection tour of the site. Once complete, the project is expected to add 50 megawatts to the national grid.

“This first phase will strengthen electricity distribution for citizens. We thank the President, as we’ve already received funds to procure a contractor for the second phase, which will generate twice the power of this first phase,” said Mr Twange.

Project Manager Emmanuel Anderson explained that construction was delayed due to challenges faced by the contractor. As a result, the government, through TANESCO, extended the deadline from February to October 2025.

The entire project, which began in December 2023 and is being implemented in two phases, is expected to cost TZS 323 billion. Upon completion, it will contribute a total of 150 megawatts to Tanzania’s national grid.
