Outgoing Bumbuli MP January Makamba has broken his silence following the ruling Chama Cha Mapinduzi (CCM)’s decision to exclude him from its shortlist of parliamentary candidates ahead of the October general elections — offering a message not of bitterness, but of loyalty and calm resolve.
In an unscheduled press briefing held Wednesday after journalists sought his reaction, Makamba struck a tone of acceptance and unity, dispelling swirling rumors about his political future and reaffirming his deep-rooted allegiance to CCM.
“I receive and fully accept the Central Committee’s decision with an open heart,” Makamba said. “I remain a loyal member and leader of Chama Cha Mapinduzi. The party has its procedures, and my duty is to respect the resolutions of its governing bodies.”
Once considered one of CCM’s rising stars, Makamba’s omission from the parliamentary shortlist has triggered speculation — ranging from alleged presidential ambitions to possible defection. But the former minister firmly denied such reports, calling them “political rumours” and reiterating his commitment to the party’s broader goals.
“I am not a presidential candidate, nor have I ever declared any intention to run,” he said. “These are merely political rumours. In politics, such challenges are to be expected, and I am prepared to face them with composure and dignity.”
Makamba, who has represented Bumbuli since 2010, confirmed he has reached out to local CCM leadership to express his support and willingness to help the party secure a strong victory in the upcoming polls.
His measured response stands in contrast to the political friction that often accompanies high-stakes internal party decisions, and underscores a message of continuity rather than conflict.
“I remain a steadfast member of CCM. This party still reflects my values, beliefs, and political vision,” Makamba affirmed.
As the party gears up for a competitive general election season, Makamba’s departure from the Bumbuli race signals a turning point — not only for his personal political journey but also for CCM’s evolving internal dynamics.
