The High Court of Tanzania, Tabora Zone, has sentenced Simon Misonge, popularly known as “Fimbo,” to death by hanging after finding him guilty of the murder of businesswoman Magreth Mvyombo.

The court heard that Misonge fatally attacked the victim with a machete on the night of July 13, 2024, in Mayeye Street, Cheyo Ward, Tabora Municipality.

After reviewing the evidence presented by the prosecution, the court found that the second accused, Idd Baraka Ali, had no case to answer and acquitted him of the murder charge.

A key piece of evidence came from a motorcycle taxi (bodaboda) rider who testified that he directly identified Simon Misonge as the person attacking the deceased with machetes.

The rider told the court that he had been taking the victim home that night and had just dropped her off when the attack occurred.

In addition to testimony from 17 witnesses, the court also considered exhibits presented by the prosecution, including a blood-stained jacket and a cap recovered from the accused’s home during a police search.

The items were examined by the Government Chemist, and the findings were submitted in court as part of the prosecution’s evidence.

After evaluating all the evidence, Justice Dr. Martha Mpaze found Simon Misonge guilty of murder and sentenced him to death by hanging.
