Mbowe chair CHADEMA central committee in eight months, what’s the agenda?

Freeman Mbowe, CHADEMA chairman, a leading oppositional party in Tanzania today on March 16, 2022, has chaired a central committee meeting for the first time after spending eight months in custody.

The central committee meeting is attended by prolific CHADEMA members, with others such as Tundu Lissu and Godbless Lema joining other members online.

“One of the meeting’s agenda is to provide an update of party’s progress to the Chairman since his release from prison”, – Said John Mremba, CHADEMA Secretary for Ideology and Publicity and Foreign Affairs.

Updating Mr Mbowe on the country’s political progress by the time he was in jail is one agenda for the meeting. The biggest item on the table is discussing the upcoming general council meeting scheduled to take place next month.

Other members took part in the meeting, including party secretary John Mnyika, the party secretary, Salum Mwalimu (Deputy Party Secretary – Zanzibar), Benson Kigaiga (Deputy Party Secretary mainland). Others include Susan Kiwanga, Grace Kiwelu, Bishop Peter Msigwa, Catherine Ruge, who is CHADEMA secretary women wing.
