Mofat Company Limited, a Tanzanian firm contracted to operate part of the country’s Bus Rapid Transit (BRT) system, has launched a major recruitment drive aimed at hiring over 1,000 new employees. The move comes as the company prepares for the commencement of Phase Two operations of the BRT project, scheduled to begin in September.
The second phase of the BRT spans 20.3 kilometers, connecting the Gerezani area in Kariakoo to Mbagala. The project, which aims to significantly improve public transportation in Dar es Salaam, was constructed at a cost of $159.33 million (approximately Sh285.1 billion). The construction was undertaken by China’s Sinohydro Construction Limited.
The recruitment drive by Mofat Company is expected to provide employment opportunities for drivers, technicians, support staff, and various other roles necessary for the smooth operation of the extended BRT system.
Officials say the expansion will ease congestion and reduce travel time for thousands of commuters along the busy corridor. It is also anticipated to have a positive impact on the local economy by creating jobs and improving access to transportation for residents in the southern parts of the city.
The launch of Phase Two marks a significant milestone in Tanzania’s efforts to modernize its urban transport infrastructure and promote sustainable mobility solutions.
