Zanzibar President, Dr Hussein Ali Mwinyi has appointed a 10-member joint committee to oversee negotiations between CCM and ACT Wazalendo on the formation of a Government of National Unity (SUK).
The committee comprises five representatives from each party and was formed following an agreement signed by CCM and ACT Wazalendo on July 9, 2026.
The committee will be jointly chaired by ACT Wazalendo Deputy Secretary-General Omar Ali Shehe and CCM Zanzibar Deputy Secretary-General Abdi Mahmoud Abdi.
CCM’s representatives are Zanzibar Minister for Construction and Transport Khalid Salum Mohamed, legislator Najma Murtaza Giga, former Deputy Speaker of the House of Representatives Mgeni Hassan Juma, and Mohamed Nur Mohamed.
ACT Wazalendo is represented by House of Representatives member Masoud Ali Mohamed, the party’s Attorney General Omar Said Shaaban, 2025 presidential running mate Fatma Fereji, and House of Representatives member Said Mbarouk.
President Mwinyi also appointed joint secretaries and members of the committee’s secretariat, which is led by Mwalim Ali Mwalim and Seif Khamis Mohamed.
The appointments come after nearly eight months of talks between CCM and ACT Wazalendo, which began on November 9, 2025, following the October 29, 2025 General Election.
