President Samia Suluhu Hassan has granted clemency to 4,887 prisoners as part of the celebrations marking 61 years of the Union between Tanganyika and Zanzibar.
Out of the total, 42 inmates are being released unconditionally on April 26, 2025, while the remaining 4,845 will continue serving their sentences, but with a reduction in the duration due to the presidential pardon.
The pardon was officially announced today as the nation commemorated the 61st Union Anniversary.
