President Samia Honored with Top Global Water Award

President Samia Suluhu Hassan has been awarded the prestigious Presidential Global Water Changemakers Award 2025, presented by the Global Water Partnership in collaboration with the African Union.

The award was officially announced on Wednesday, August 13, 2025, by Botswana’s President Duma Boko, who also chairs the award committee. It was received on President Samia’s behalf by Tanzania’s Ambassador to South Africa, James Bwana.

The honor was presented during the Africa Water Investment Summit, currently underway in Cape Town, South Africa, from August 13–15, 2025.

The Global Water Partnership recognized President Samia for her leadership and transformative efforts in Tanzania’s water sector, including major infrastructure development, improved water supply, and innovative financing such as the Green Bond issued by Tanga Water Authority.

President Bassirou Diomaye Faye (Senegal)

His Highness Sheikh Mohamed bin Zayed Al Nahyan (UAE)

Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman Al Saud (Saudi Arabia)

King Letsie III (Lesotho)

Also attending the summit is former Tanzanian President Jakaya Kikwete, who serves as Co-Chair of the High-Level Panel on Water Investment in Africa.
