President Samia orders legal reforms to propel Tanzania’s Vision 2050

President Samia Suluhu Hassan has directed the Law Reform Commission, in coordination with the Attorney General’s Office, to begin drafting legal reforms to support the successful implementation of Tanzania’s newly launched National Development Vision 2050.

Speaking at the official launch ceremony held in Dodoma, President Samia underscored the importance of a strong legal and policy framework in achieving the ambitious long-term development goals outlined in Vision 2050.

“I sincerely congratulate those who crafted this Vision,” she said. “But now, let us implement it in action, not just in words.”

She emphasized that in today’s rapidly evolving global environment, every nation must forge economic strategies tailored to its unique circumstances. For Tanzania, she noted, this means ensuring Vision 2050 is backed by solid policies that enable sustainable growth and national progress.

Vision 2050 was developed through wide-ranging public consultations and is anchored in the strategic use of Tanzania’s natural and human resources to improve the quality of life for all citizens. President Samia called on all Tanzanians—government officials, private sector actors, and ordinary citizens alike—to commit to its execution with diligence, unity, and professionalism.

“A better life is built through resources and resilience,” she stated. “Let us bring this Vision to life with hard work and expertise.”

She added that the formulation of the Vision involved a deep review of the country’s past achievements and challenges, aligned with the demands and realities of today’s global economy.

During her speech, President Samia also acknowledged the instrumental role of Vice President Dr. Philip Mpango in shaping Vision 2050. Although Dr. Mpango has requested to step down from his role, she announced he will remain partially active in what she termed a “semi-retirement” capacity, continuing to support the Vision’s implementation.

“I believe this Vision will be realized,” the President concluded. “Our government is committed to using our national resources to build a resilient and inclusive economy. The journey may be long, but we are determined to reach our destination.”
