President Samia Suluhu Hassan Pledges to Begin Constitutional Reforms Within 100 Days

President Samia Suluhu Hassan has pledged that her government will begin working on long-awaited constitutional reforms within the first 100 days of the second term of the Sixth Phase Government.

Speaking in Dodoma during the inauguration of the 13th Parliament, President Samia reaffirmed her commitment to strengthening Tanzania’s democracy through national dialogue, reconciliation, and consensus.

She revealed that the first step toward the reform process will be the formation of a Commission for Reconciliation and Consensus, which will guide the country in building shared understanding on key constitutional and governance matters.

President Samia emphasized that Tanzania’s democratic journey must reflect its own culture, experiences, and values rather than rely on imported systems.

“There is no single formula for democracy,” she said. “As a nation, we continue to learn and improve ourselves. Let us agree on how to govern our country democratically in a way that respects our own customs and traditions.”

Her remarks signal a renewed focus on inclusive governance and citizen participation, setting the tone for a national process aimed at consolidating unity and democratic maturity in Tanzania.
