The government’s decision to partner with DP World and Tanzania East Africa Gateway Limited in managing and developing parts of the Dar es Salaam Port has led to major improvements in performance and cost-efficiency.
Key achievements include:
Operational costs reduced from TZS 775.01 billion to TZS 685.16 billion — a 30% decrease.
Ship waiting time at anchorage has dropped from an average of 46 days to just 7 days for general cargo, mixed cargo, and bulk vessels; and from 10 days to 3 days for container ships at the dock.
Container handling capacity increased from 17,000 to 25,000 containers per month — a 47% rise.
The sixth-phase government, under the leadership of President Samia Suluhu, remains focused on modernizing and strengthening port infrastructure to enhance efficiency, boost trade, and position Tanzania as a key logistics hub in the region.
