Tanzania’s Registrar of Political Parties has suspended eight senior Chadema officials, citing a lack of quorum during their endorsement by the party’s National Executive Council (NEC) on January 22, 2025.

The decision follows a complaint from Lembrus Mchome, Chadema’s Mwanga District chairman, who claimed the NEC meeting failed to meet legal and constitutional requirements.

Among those suspended are Secretary General John Mnyika, Deputy Secretaries Amani Golugwa (Mainland) and Ally Ibrahim Juma (Zanzibar), as well as Central Committee members and Chief Legal Advisor Dr. Rugemeleza Nshala.

The Registrar has ordered Chadema to comply with the Political Parties Act, party rules and its own constitution. The suspensions will remain until a properly convened NEC meeting is held to revisit the appointments.
