The Tanzania Agricultural Development Bank (TADB) has supported the establishment of Mayai Ltd, a modern egg-laying poultry factory located in Kimbwela Village, Simbo Ward, Kigoma Region.
According to TADB Business Development Officer Patrick Kapungu, the facility is among the largest in Tanzania’s Western Zone, covering Kigoma, Tabora, and Katavi. It has created both permanent and temporary jobs for local residents, while also contributing to broader community development.
More than 40 people are directly employed, and the project has supported improvements in water supply, electricity, roads, schools, and health services in surrounding villages.
Mayai Ltd’s Managing Director explained that 80 percent of the project’s financing was provided through TADB, acknowledging that such government-backed support was essential to its success.
Currently, the factory produces around 3,000 trays of eggs daily — equivalent to 90,000 trays each month — representing a major step forward in the region’s economic transformation and food security.
