Tanga UWASA Expands Water Infrastructure with Green Bond Funding to Boost Supply Capacity

The Tanga Urban Water Supply and Sanitation Authority (TANGA UWASA) is continuing with the implementation of Phase III of the Water Infrastructure and Environmental Conservation Improvement Project, funded through the TANGA WATER GREEN BOND.

Currently, trench excavation and the laying of large 600mm diameter pipes—extending over a distance of 6 kilometers from the Mabayani water pumping station to the Mowe water treatment plant—are underway. The implementation of this phase has reached 20% completion.

The project is being executed by the local contractor, S.T.C Construction Company Limited. The main objective is to increase the water pumping capacity from the current 42 million liters to 60 million liters. This expansion aims to ensure improved and more reliable water services for residents of Tanga City, as well as the towns of Muheza and Mkinga.
