Tanzania’s annual inflation rate accelerated in June, the country’s national bureau of statistics said Monday.
The 12-month headline inflation rate rose to 4.4% in June from 4.0% in May, the statistics bureau said in its July report.
It said that annual inflation of food and non-alcoholic beverages rose to 5.9% in June from 5.5% in May, mainly due to price increases for maize, rice, wheat and potatoes.
The statistics bureau said that annual inflation for items excluding food and non-alcoholic beverages was 3.9% compared with 3.4% the prior month.
It said that the annual inflation of energy, fuel, and utilities was 12.9% in June compared with 13.5% in May.
Core inflation, whose index accounts for the largest share in the consumer price index basket, rose to 3.4% in June from 3.0% the preceding month, the statistics bureau said.
