Tanzania invests TSh 12 billion to expand secondary education infrastructure in Rukwa, Katavi, and Tabora

The government of President Samia Suluhu Hassan has invested nearly TSh 12 billion in the construction and completion of new secondary schools in the regions of Rukwa, Katavi, and Tabora under the Secondary Education Quality Improvement Program (SEQUIP).

This initiative reflects the government’s strong commitment to strengthening education infrastructure, expanding access to quality and inclusive education, and fulfilling the 2020–2025 CCM election manifesto—especially in the education sector.

As part of the initiative, the government has completed the construction of two modern vocational secondary schools in Kibondo District (Tabora Region) and Mlele District (Katavi Region), with a combined cost of TSh 3.2 billion. In addition, TSh 8.8 billion was spent to finalize the construction of two girls’ secondary schools—one in Sumbawanga District (Rukwa Region) and the other in Nsimbo District (Katavi Region). These schools are now fully operational.

All the schools have been built through the SEQUIP project, which serves as a key platform for implementing the CCM government’s pledge to improve education quality and access nationwide.

The newly built girls’ schools in Katavi and Rukwa include a full range of modern facilities such as laboratories for Chemistry, Physics, Biology, and Geography; classrooms; administrative offices; dormitories; teacher housing; dining halls; ICT buildings; sanitation systems; and perimeter fences.

Meanwhile, the vocational school in Mlele District, Rukwa, includes classrooms and offices, a library, administration block, Chemistry and Biology labs, an ICT center, four student dormitories, a dining hall, two technical workshops, a teacher’s house, and toilet facilities.

This large-scale investment underscores the government’s drive to create a more inclusive and future-ready education system across Tanzania’s regions.
