Following the allocation of Tsh 150bn/- in the agriculture budget 2022/23 to subsidize fertilizer prices, the government plans to increase the amount of fertilizer in 2022/23 up to 500,000 tones.

In the agricultural season of 2021/22, Tanzania utilized 360,000 tones of fertilizers. According to Dr. Ngailo, the Tanzania Fertilizers Regulatory Authority (TFRA), the farmer’s fertilizer application was affected by hiked prices and unfavorable weather conditions.

However, Tanzania aims to ensure fertilizer uptake reaches 800,000 tones by 2025.
