Tanzania is set to enter a new phase of development as President Samia Suluhu Hassan prepares to officially launch the Tanzania Development Vision 2050 (TDV 2050) on July 17 in Dodoma.
Planning Minister Prof. Kitila Mkumbo announced the milestone during a media briefing in Dar es Salaam, confirming the completion of the document themed “The Tanzania We Want.”
“This is a historic moment,” Prof. Mkumbo said, noting the vision has been approved by both Cabinet and Parliament, making it a nationally-endorsed, non-partisan agenda.
TDV 2050 builds on the current Vision 2025 and aims to guide Tanzania into becoming an upper-middle-income nation. The goals include eliminating poverty, promoting inclusive economic growth, and improving access to quality education, healthcare, and social services.
The new vision emphasizes equal opportunity—particularly for women, youth, and people with disabilities—while supporting regional balance, national unity, and sustainable development.
Prof. Mkumbo highlighted that political parties have agreed to align their election manifestos with TDV 2050 to ensure long-term consistency.
At least three future presidents are expected to oversee its implementation, making TDV 2050 a cornerstone for shaping Tanzania’s next 25 years.
