Tanzanian leader and youth advocate Jokate Mwegelo has been appointed to represent the youth of Southern Africa’s Liberation Movement parties, marking a significant milestone in regional political collaboration. Her appointment was announced during a high-level summit attended by dignitaries, senior political figures, and international guests.
The event, officiated by African National Congress (ANC) Secretary General Fikile Mbalula, brought together youth representatives from liberation movements across Tanzania, South Africa, Mozambique, Zimbabwe, Angola, and Namibia.
Delivering a powerful and visionary address, Jokate proposed the establishment of a Liberation Movement Youth Festival—a dynamic regional platform aimed at fostering political dialogue, cultural exchange, and shared economic opportunities among young people across Southern Africa.
“It was an incredible honour to stand before respected comrades and guests from beyond the continent to share our youth vision,” Jokate said. “I’m proud that our proposal was not only heard but approved. Now it’s time for action.”
The proposed festival will serve as a unifying force for youth in the region, integrating music, art, sports, innovation, and political education. It will also provide a platform for critical conversations on leadership, economic empowerment, and regional solidarity.
The initiative has been widely welcomed and is seen as a vital step toward deepening youth engagement in the legacy and future of Southern Africa’s liberation movements.
