Today, March 11, 2022, the Tanzania Revenue Authority (TRA) has asked businessmen conducting their businesses online to ensure that they are registered with the agency.
TRA stated that the aim is to limit those who use such methods to evade paying tax.
“We realize there are people who do not have shops and do not have a TIN [Taxpayer Identification Number] to run their business. Some have large warehouses to store products and then sell them digitally. You all have to come and register,” stated on TRA Twitter account.
Tunatambua kuna watu hawana maduka na hawana TIN kwa ajili ya biashara wanazofanya. Na wengine wana maghala makubwa ya kuhifadhi bidhaa na kisha kuuza kidigitali. Sasa nyinyi nyote mnapaswa kuja kujisajili.

At the same time, TRA will be monitoring the online shops’ clients to get accurate information about those businesses.
The agency acknowledged that this comes with technology development and would prefer if people would use the technology wisely rather than bend the rules and laws.
