The government of President Samia Suluhu Hassan has allocated over 30 billion Tanzanian shillings for the rehabilitation of key roads across the country that have been damaged by ongoing heavy rains.
The announcement was made by the Minister of Infrastructure, Abdallah Ulega, during an emergency visit to Morogoro Region. He visited the area following the destruction of the road connecting Ifakara – Mlimba to the Njombe Region due to the rains.
Minister Ulega emphasized that, in addition to the emergency funds approved by the President, the government’s long-term plans for road and bridge construction remain in place and are not affected by these emergency efforts.
“I have come to you, the people of Morogoro—especially those in Ifakara, Malinyi, Ulanga, and Mlimba—to deliver greetings and sympathies from your President for the hardship you are experiencing. But I also bring good news,” he said.
“Your President, Samia Suluhu Hassan, has approved the use of over TZS 30 billion for emergency construction of roads and bridges damaged by these ongoing rains—here in your region and in other parts of Tanzania—so that your lives can continue. Roads are the backbone of the economy. Roads are life, and work must go on,” he stated.
