In the process of expanding and strengthening its presence in East Africa, Air France has launched its twice a week route from Tanzania to France, Zanzibar – Paris – Zanzibar with 1-stop in Nairobi, Kenya.
The airline that’s part of KLM group was welcomed at Abeid Amani Karume International Airport (AAKIA) on October 19th ready to commence its routes.
The nearly 12hrs routes are to take place on Tuesdays and Saturdays using Boeing 787-9 from AAKIA to Charles de Gaulle Airport in Paris.
Air France has been ranked the best European Airline by Skytrax with the promise to help those wishing to travel to Paris from East Africa and from Paris to East Africa have a memorable trip. Zanzibar is Air France’s sixth destination in Africa.
Tanzania, Zanzibar in particular is rich in history, cultural heritage and natural sites attracting tourists from all over the world. On the other hand, people can travel between Zanzibar and France and get to see some very scenic places including the Eiffel Tower in Paris and Stone Town in Zanzibar.
Some prominent government leaders from both sides were present at the Airline’s inaugural ceremony in Zanzibar including; Zanzibar’s Minister of Tourism and Heritage, Leila Mohamed Musa, Zanzibar’s Minister of Trade and Industrial Development, Omar Said Shaaban, France Ambassador to Tanzania, Nabil Hajlaoui, Air France, KLM Vice President, Jean Marc Pouch, Air France-KLM country Manager for Tanzania Alexander Van de Wint alongside other government leaders and Airport authorities.
Shaaban has labelled this cooperation as a great opportunity for tourism, trade and investment attraction.
The route only strengthens Zanzibar’s ties with France as in December 2020, Air France launched a direct route from Zanzibar to Amsterdam.
“It will undoubtedly aim at reinforcing our business and relation. We thank the government for their continued support,” said Van de Wint.
