Kenya leads Africa in tourist arrivals to Zanzibar

Kenya has emerged as the leading African source of tourists to Zanzibar, contributing 7,911 visitors in August 2026, equivalent to 6.4% of all international arrivals to the islands.

The figure represents a 75.2% increase compared with the 4,515 Kenyan visitors recorded in August 2025, and a 13.7% rise from the 6,959 visitors recorded in July 2026.

Overall, Zanzibar recorded 124,481 international tourist arrivals in August 2026, an 18% increase compared with August last year. Of these, 30,495 visitors came from African countries, accounting for 24.5% of all international arrivals.

The figures highlight the growing contribution of the African market to the growth of Zanzibar’s tourism sector.
