BoT: Deliberately damaging banknotes attracts a TZS 500,000 fine

The Bank of Tanzania (BoT) has warned that deliberately tearing or damaging banknotes in circulation is a criminal offence. Anyone found guilty will be fined TZS 500,000 for each damaged note.

BoT further stated that failure to pay the fine could result in one year imprisonment for every banknote damaged.
