Prime Minister Dr Mwigulu Nchemba has said that within one week, the government will take measures to ensure that cement prices become affordable for citizens, following complaints about rising prices of the product in various regions across the country, including Simiyu.
He made the statement while addressing residents of Bariadi Town in Simiyu Region during a public meeting held at CCM Saba Saba grounds.
“The government has seen the issue. We are a listening government, and we have heard you. I have sent experts to find a solution within one week. We will announce measures to lower cement prices so that every Tanzanian can afford it. In some areas, the price of cement has risen to more than Sh26,000, while in some border regions it has reached Sh32,000,” he said.
He stressed that the government wants citizens to be able to afford the cost of building homes and other development projects.
