Govt builds the first Tsh 130bn/- transmission line for power evacuation from JNHPP-Chalinze & Chalinze substation.

Tanzania’s President will use Tsh. Billion 130/- to construct the electricity substation Chalinze Line is a 400kV overhead line of 160km from Julius Nyerere Hydropower Station, Morogoro, Tanzania, to Chalinze, Pwani, Tanzania.

The construction works on the JNHPP – Chalinze Line project commenced in 2021, and commissioning is expected in 2022.

When completed, it will supply electricity to various regions in the country and abroad, including Zambia. The project has now reached 17%.

The expects to receive 400 kV of electricity for the first time from the JNHPP dam, then 200 kilowatts and 132 kilowatts which will be sent to Dar es Salaam, Dodoma and various places inside and outside the country.

Approximately $72m was financed by the authorities to undertake the project’s construction works.

JNHPP Chalinze Line is an overhead line that Tanzania Electric Supply will operate. The line will carry alternating current (AC) through a double circuit cable.
