The Tanzanian government has allocated 5.1bn/- in the 2025/26 financial year to compensate 1,730 residents impacted by the construction of a 220kV electricity transmission line from Masasi to Mahumbika.
The announcement was made in Dodoma by Deputy Minister for Energy Salome Makamba, who noted that the funds are meant to support communities that gave up land to allow implementation of the national grid project.
Authorities say the compensation will be paid within the current financial year, depending on fund availability, reaffirming the government’s commitment to protecting citizens’ rights while advancing key energy infrastructure aimed at improving electricity access and economic growth.
