Tanzania’s Mahenge Graphite Project is making steady progress, with early construction works expected to be completed in 2026—marking a critical step toward full-scale development. The early works phase includes site preparation, infrastructure setup, and groundwork designed to fast-track the main construction once financing is finalized.
Led by Black Rock Mining, the project is among the largest graphite developments globally and is strategically positioned to support the growing demand for battery minerals used in electric vehicles and clean energy technologies. Once operational, it is expected to produce up to 340,000 tonnes of high-purity graphite annually, placing Tanzania among key global suppliers.
The early works completion signals strong momentum despite ongoing efforts to secure full project financing. With groundwork already underway—including roads, power infrastructure, and site facilities—the project is being positioned for rapid transition into full construction and eventual production in the coming years
