The former Dar es Salaam Regional Commissioner, Paul Makonda, is expected to submit counter-affidavits to the court against charges of abuse of public office filed on him by Saed Kubenea.
In early March 2022, the Kinondoni resident court summoned Paul Makonda to answer charges of abuse of office that were filed against him by Saed Kubenenea. Court’s records reveal to have summoned Makonda twice for the same allegations, but Makonda responded to none.
Following Makonda’s shunning of the court’s callings, Kubenea’s lawyers had to file the request to the court asking to publish Makonda’s summon in the newspaper.
Advocate Doodchance Reginald, Makonda’s lawyer, counter-argued that request by justifying his client’s absence before the court, saying that his client never received any formal court call but overheard it over the media. He then went on to ask for a time extension to collect all necessary documents for his client’s defence.
Judge Aron Lyamuya at Kinondoni Resident Magistrate Court gave an extension of 21 days to Makonda’s lawyer to collect and submit all necessary documents.
Today, at Kinondoni Resident Magistrate Court, the court will open the case’s hearing. Makonda is facing charges of public office abuse, including raiding clouds TV offices with armed police in 2017.
