Ruvuma Regional Commissioner, Brigadier General Ahmed Abbas, has launched a modern rescue boat worth 1.5 billion shillings, which will be used for rescue operations and responding to fire emergencies on Lake Nyasa.

Brigadier General Ahmed said the boat will increase the government’s capacity to save lives during emergencies, reach disaster-affected areas more quickly, and support security and safety operations.

Acting Commander of the Ruvuma Regional Fire and Rescue Force, SSFR Merania Nyabinywino, said the boat has two engines with a combined power of 500 horsepower, a fuel capacity of 600 litres, and can carry 12 passengers at a time.
