The Tanzania Police Force has said there have been plans, statements and mobilisation efforts by some religious leaders, politicians and activists, conducted secretly through closed-door meetings as well as openly, with the aim of encouraging people to engage in criminal activities.
The police said the planned criminal acts include causing violence, destroying infrastructure used to provide public services, and damaging public and private property.
“The Police Force assures the public that, in collaboration with other security and defence agencies and using the information it continues to receive, it is closely monitoring these plans, including identifying and arresting those involved for further legal action,” the statement said.
The Police Force also warned anyone involved in such criminal activities aimed at inciting violence and destroying property to stop, stressing that it would not hesitate to take strict legal action against those found responsible.
