The Tanzania Prisons Service has said that CHADEMA Chairman Tundu Lissu is safe and is not on a hunger strike, contrary to reports by some party leaders, urging the public to disregard the claims.
The Service also said Lissu continues to receive visits from his lawyers, who have been allowed to meet with him after their status as his legitimate legal representatives was verified.
In its statement, the Prisons Service said it observes all security measures concerning inmates throughout the period they remain in its lawful custody.
However, the Service urged the public to stop spreading false information, stressing that doing so is an offence under the law.
