Rungwe District Commissioner Jafar Haniu has given residents of Suma Village and others living along the Katumba–Mbambo–Tukuyu Road five days to vacate the road reserve, allowing construction of the road to asphalt standard to proceed at full speed.
He issued the directive today, November 2, 2026, during a visit to inspect progress on the 79.4-kilometre road project. He was accompanied by the Rungwe District Defence and Security Committee and the district CCM Political Committee.
Haniu stressed that residents must remove their homes and other activities from the road reserve within five days. He warned that those who defy the order will be removed by the government and required to reimburse the costs of the exercise.
He also urged TANROADS Mbeya Region to strengthen supervision of the contractor to ensure work continues day and night and the project is completed on time. He noted that the government, under President Samia Suluhu Hassan, has already released funds for its implementation.
