Samia speaks on the rise of edible oil prices.

President Samia Suluhu Hassan has said that the edible oil situation in Tanzania is desperate as the prices constantly rise.

Today, March 31, 2022, President Samia made those remarks while receiving the 2020/2021 Controller Audit General report at the State House in Dodoma Chamwino.

In the previous budget, President Samia said the government had adopted a plan that induced subsidies and provided relief to protect domestic edible oil industries from external oil imports. Unfortunately, the plan has not worked since edible oil has constantly risen.

“The situation on edible oil is not pleasant. The domestic industries produce at minimal capacity, and you have halted the imports. As we work on improving local industries, allow imports, even though prices might be higher, but at least people will have oil to use” – President Samia Suluhu Hassan.
