Tanzanian couple arrested on suspicion of drugging and robbing passengers

Police in Kenya have arrested a Tanzanian couple suspected of being part of a criminal syndicate that drugs passengers on long-distance buses travelling between Nairobi and Mombasa before robbing them.

The investigation began after a passenger boarded a Dreamline bus from Nairobi to Mombasa on September 18, 2026, and was allegedly drugged by a person sitting next to him, causing him to lose consciousness. He later regained consciousness at Tudor Sub-County Hospital in Mombasa and discovered that his bag and other belongings had been stolen.

After the passenger reported the incident, detectives based at Makupa Police Station launched an investigation and, using forensic leads, traced the suspects to a house in the Magongo area of Mombasa.

During the operation, police arrested the couple and conducted a search of the residence, where they recovered an HP laptop and an iPhone 17 Pro Max allegedly belonging to the complainant.
