The government has announced that elderly veterans who fought to defend the country during the Idi Amin War will begin receiving payments within the current financial year, following amendments to the law to establish a framework for identifying and recognizing them.

Prime Minister Dr. Mwigulu Nchemba said the delay in making the payments was due to some of the fighters not being recognized under the laws governing military retirees, owing to the circumstances at the time.
