From being the first female to anchor Dira ya Dunia, the first Tanzanian woman to anchor Focus on Africa, and the first BBC World News anchor wearing a hijab, Zuhura Yunus is about to become Tanzania’s first female Director of Presidential Communications.
Earlier today, a statement from Ikulu announced that President Samia Suluhu Hassan had appointed the distinguished Journalist to run all Ikulu communications.
Zuhura joined the BBC team in 2008. Her work made her famous, while others drew inspiration from her.

While working at BBC, she partook in rewriting the history of Tanzania by covering features that spoke of Tanzania. A feature on MV Liemba, a ship crafted by Germans during colonial time and still used, was a big hit.
Recently, Zuhura published a book about Biubwa Amour Zahor, a female political activist during the Zanzibar revolution.
Zuhura is yet to take an oath, while Jaffar Haniu, who held the position from June 2021, will be assigned other duties.
